I think it was 1998 when I last doodled or tried writing my name in bubble letters. Well recently, I decided to give it another try except this time learning from the professionals.
Valerie McKeehan’s book on Chalk Lettering was the first book I purchased. She gives step-by- step photos of how to handletter in chalk. You can take many of these tips outside of the chalk world and apply them to handlettering on paper. I have been truly obsessed with her book and her work. Not only is this book inspiring but it is simple to follow.
You know, when I used to doodle in high school on my assignments, I never thought my work could someday turn into something I could share with others. Now that I am a teacher and I see my students doodling, I don’t get mad; instead, I ask them about their work and try to give a little inspiring advice. I mean you never know- that student might write a book or make a living with his or her doodles.

The Decoration Channel did an amazing job with not only creating a mantel for Halloween but for Thanksgiving as well. It's great to see a mantel with a historical theme that celebrates the holiday in a whimsical way.
