As we approach the New Year, I am excited to share some great news. I decided to change my shop's name. Michelle Elizondo Designs will now become Kindly Lettered. Changing my shop's name is something I have been batteling with for the past year. I prayed. And prayed. And prayed. I actually struggled in finding a name that not only described me as a person but what I feel when I am creating my designs. Kindness and being kind are words that kept popping into my mind. Then, I brainstormed what I love the most about my designs and that is hand lettering. Teaching my self to hand letter is not easy. The difficult part of hand lettering is actually finding the time to practice. I purchased a book, bought sketchbooks and even some lettering pens. Again, the struggle now is to find the time. This one personal goal I have set for myself as I enter 2017. I hope and pray that my work bring you the joy I feel when I am creating and designing. Thank you for taking time to read this and I am wishing you a Blessed 2017 New Year!

Now, that we are heading into the Fall, finding the perfect color for your wedding can be a little challenging. Looking at websites such as Green Wedding Shoes, helps to give you a nice jump start in finding the perfect color as well as theme for your wedding.
One of my favorite invitations to design is one that is not only simple in design but makes a statement with color. Having a wedding in the fall does not give a bride a disadvantage in color. In fact, the fall colors tend to be trendy and if you mix and matching them, you can give the bride many options for decor and with their invitations. As a journalism teacher, I teach my students to start with a chosen color scheme. Choosing your color(s) is the first-step and the design will center around those colors. Two websites that we use are: Pantone and Adobe Kuler. The Pantone website will give you the chosen colors for both the fall and the spring. The Adobe Kuler allows you to create a color scheme, keeping the colors within its family.
I think it was 1998 when I last doodled or tried writing my name in bubble letters. Well recently, I decided to give it another try except this time learning from the professionals.
Valerie McKeehan’s book on Chalk Lettering was the first book I purchased. She gives step-by- step photos of how to handletter in chalk. You can take many of these tips outside of the chalk world and apply them to handlettering on paper. I have been truly obsessed with her book and her work. Not only is this book inspiring but it is simple to follow.
You know, when I used to doodle in high school on my assignments, I never thought my work could someday turn into something I could share with others. Now that I am a teacher and I see my students doodling, I don’t get mad; instead, I ask them about their work and try to give a little inspiring advice. I mean you never know- that student might write a book or make a living with his or her doodles.

There's nothing cuter than a fun Halloween print on your mantel. No mantel, no problem. These prints can adorn your walls or placed on a coffee table. Pinterest is a great source for ideas and inspiration. Here are a few, I found online that I love.
The Decoration Channel did an amazing job with not only creating a mantel for Halloween but for Thanksgiving as well. It's great to see a mantel with a historical theme that celebrates the holiday in a whimsical way.
The Jesus Loves you more than...cards have left the house and have found a home in three different states. One reads Jesus loves you more than...a donut on a cold winter night and the other ...than a cookie dipped in cold milk. 🍩🍪
